2014 Artist of the Year

2014
Artist of the Year

My passion for painting began in oils as a young stay at home mom when I found a craft shop teaching folk art; this was my first attempt. Although the class was a place to start painting, I soon found that without any drawing skills my work was bound by the lines and that was too confining for me — too ridged, confining and repetitious. So I went on to study with artists in the area, such as Nancy Smith (oils & watercolor) and Ginna P. Lagergren (Pastel). Still feeling the need for more structure to build a foundation, I entered the Indianapolis diploma program and completed that in 1991. The next summer I started an ongoing 2 week session at Arrowmount with Lenard Kowalski (Maryland) for 6 years and I still go back to Arrowmount whenever I can. After moving to Kentucky, it’s been very enjoyable to paint the topography that is so similar to Indiana. As time goes on, I always find myself forever learning. I still paint with the Indiana Plein air Painters and since moving to Kentucky have joined the Louisville Plein air Painters. My last two large Paint Outs were in Pa. at the Brandywine last fall and New Harmony, Ind. this spring. One of my paintings Placed in the Kentucky Watercolor Society Membership show. Most recently one of my pieces was accepted into the Hoosier Salon 90th Anniversary Annual Exhibition in Indianapolis at the Indiana Historical Society from June to August, 2014
